APLNB PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT GRANT
In May 2003, Janet Moss of the Gérard V. La Forest Law Library at UNB Fredericton received the first Professional Development Grant of the Association. A grant of $500 May be awarded to a member who proposes to develop a project which will contribute significantly to the profession of librarianship or his or her own professional development. With her grant, Janet developed the first training manual for users of the KF Modified classification scheme. This classification was created by Canadian law librarians in the the 1960's and was a modification of the Library of Congress KF Class. At the time of its creation, the original KF Class did not permit a rational classification of legal subjects other than within the law of the United States. Today, the Modified KF allows the law of non-U.S. jurisdictions to be more easily integrated into comprehensive law collections. At present, the KF Modified Classification is used in more than 70 Canadian law libraries, many of which are open to the general public. Congratulations, Janet, on a wonderful addition to the literature of librarianship.
