Speakers

Jacques Besner:
Day-to-day Coaching: How five Minutes Can Save You Hours of Work

Situation

The library manager's day is a non-stop flow of never-ending short activities. How, in this context, can we manage our work, keep channels of communication open with our employees, and still accomplish our many projects?

Content

During this presentation, you will learn some useful tips about how to give efficient feedback and manage your operational problems, how to congratulate your employees correctly, how to correct inappropriate employee behaviours, and how to develop an employee's new skills.

Speaker

Mr. Besner is a consultant in human resources management with significant experience working with libraries and librarians.

Diane Mittermeyer:
Marketing Information Services: In Search of Success

Content

In libraries, our products are defined primarily in terms of services and are generally intangible, even virtual. However, the various "customers" of our libraries are, for them most part, quite tangible. Thus, we need to think about how our customers differ from those of Wal-Mart or CostCo.

Speaker

Diane Mittermayer is a graduate of the University of Toronto (Ph.D. in Library and Information Science) and is currently an Associate Professor at McGill University (GSLIS). Her principal interests are public libraries (decision-making processes, organizational structures, and services to specific groups), marketing information services in non-profit organizations, and information literacy. She is very active in our profession, is a member of several professional organizations, and has an impressive publications record.
