UNB-FREDERICTON LIBRARIES RECEIVE RECOGNITION AWARDThe second annual APLNB Recognition Award was presented to the UNB-Fredericton Libraries at the luncheon during the 2002 AGM and Conference in Saint John. John Teskey, Director of Libraries at UNB-F, accepted the award of $500 and commemorative plaque on behalf of the UNB-F library staff and administration. The 2002 award recognized the Librarian Intern Program at UNB-F, which was begun in 1996 to help new librarians establish themselves in their profession by offering them knowledge that can only be learned in a practical, on-the-job setting. Under the leadership of mentor librarians, such experiences enhance the theories and skills learned in library school. The award was particularly appropriate, given the 2002 conference theme of "Mentoring: Window on our Profession." Under the highly successful program, four internships have been awarded to date, with two of the recipients going on to successful full-time professional appointments. APLNB is happy to acknowledge this innovative program that helps prepare beginning professionals for careers in library and information services. For more information about the internship program, contact John Teskey at the UNB-F Libraries, Fredericton.
